In this video tutorial, we explain the mid-side stereo recording technique.
Mid-side recording is popular in broadcasting circles because of its excellent mono compatibility (other forms of stereo recording can leave a hole in the middle or create wierd phasing artifacts when summed to mono).
It also gives you control over the stereo image in post production, it works great in smaller spaces (you don't need microphones spaced far apart), and there's no need to have a 'matched' pair of microphones.
